Wonderful…is the perfect word to describe my run this afternoon. I did it. FINALLY logged in over 5 miles. Last time I ran a long run was in NYC…and it was through Central Park. This run was not as great as my Central Park run (mainly because it was warm then and there wasn’t any snow!) but my 9.25 miler this afternoon was a pretty good run.
Despite the huge snow drifts (like climbing mountains every time I wanted to cross the street), the segments of sidewalk that weren’t shoveled (really people? You’ll shovel your own walk to the street, but not the sidewalk in front of your house that other people have to use??), and the like-running-in-sand conditions along River Road, I’ll take 9.25 miles in 1:26:47. That’s about a 9:22/mile pace. Not bad!
I felt great most of the run…but there would be times where my legs would feel super numb and cold…that wasn’t great. I bundled up because it was only 14 degrees out! And it felt even cooler along the river. I wore my 80% Thinsulate 20% spandex running tights. A cold-weather long-sleeve, my Chicago sweat wicking long-sleeve, and my Brooks running jacket. I was definitely warm for the majority of my run.
Running along River Road was tough because the trail was haphazardly plowed. In some spots I was running on 3+ inches of packed down snow and ice, other spots the snow was all loose and then it was like running in sand. But with no ocean next to you.
The rest of the afternoon was spent cleaning and studying. My place has been a disaster these last few days. Two weeks of finals prep will do that. 😉
Dinner was reheated chili.
And now it’s off to Kerry’s Christmas party! I am really excited to see her and some of our other friends. Kerry is such a great hostess too. She’ll have lots of really yummy treats. 🙂
Have a great night! 3 miles + Erica’s class tomorrow…then library allllll day. Woooooooot.
