Disturbing…

As I was prepping breakfast this morning, this story came up on GMA…

 

Pretty sick.

Also, I almost threw up at yoga sculpt this morning.  I haven’t felt like I needed to puke from a workout since helping coach CC down in Baton Rouge, LA.  Happy to say I didn’t, but I still felt pretty crappy.  Class was HARD and it was SUPER hot in the studio.

Working out after work sucks.

I realized today why I like working out in the morning.  Come 5:00 I am exhausted and the last thing I want to do is workout.  Luckily I had Becca to motivate me to run after work otherwise I would have gone home and watched tv from my couch.

And swimming this morning? Yea, that didn’t happen.  I seriously struggle hauling my butt out of bed when I have no plans to meet someone to workout.  I am so not accountable and my bed is so much more comfortable than a swimming pool.  Plus,  who’d want to leave this little guy behind? 😉

My friend Erin and I went to the Newroom for dinner tonight.  Great patio and great food/drinks.

In other news…

Today at work I got to go on a tour of the property room (where all the evidence was kept).  We saw TONS of drugs and guns. It was super creepy/cool.  More cool than creepy.

I’m off to Boston tomorrow for the wedding of my friends Katie and Brian.  It’s going to be LEGENDARY!

Workout: I made it to my 5:15 run! We ran about 3.4 miles and it was a gorgeous morning.  Cool and crisp.  We then hit up Bruce’s class and I felt like Lindsey Vonn after class.  We did all these exercises that a downhill skier would do–used to Bosu for balance, did lots of side-to-side-mogul-esque exercises, and lots of squats and lunges.  I think I’m ready for a Colorado black diamond. Just saying.

Anna and I went to yoga tonight.  It wasn’t as hot as Tuesday night but it was still pretty warm.  I feel super stretched out and ready for bed!

In other news…

I am getting really bored with breakfast and lunch. Gasp. I know.  You probably never thought that could happen.  I need some new ideas to spice up these meals.  Any suggestions?!

I went the fruit + yogurt + fiber one route for breakfast this morning…and while it def held me over, it wasn’t that good.

I used Chobani vanilla which isn’t the best.  Lots of sugar.  I should go the plain route but I just really dislike plain yogurt.  😦  I wish I had a blender at work.  It would be weird to bring mine, right?

Tomorrow I am going to lunch with my friend Jackie.  Darby is going to playgroup!  He goes to doggie playgroup about two times per week–when I can’t make it home for lunch. He is making new friends and toTALLY coming out of his shell.  I thought Julie, Genet, and Steph would appreciate the Darby update. 😉

Off to bed.  Swim tomorrow morning and running 4 miles with Becca tomorrow afternoon.  BOOM.  I think I need to sign up for a summer tri!

Hot yoga is my new jam

So yesterday was pretty hot.

Which meant that hot yoga was really hot.  I looked like I jumped in a swimming pool with my workout clothes on.  Not a pretty sight.

However, I did feel AWESOME.  I totally didn’t want to go but forced myself to anyway.  I was so so so happy when I finished class.  WORTH IT!

This morning I had planned an early workout at the gym.  But when 4:30 am rolled around there was no way I was getting up to make it to my 5:15 swim.   So I just stayed in bed a bit longer and went to 6 am spin.  For breakfast, I packed some whey protein powder and scrambled eggs (made them last night and reheated at work).  I had another busy day at work and  hit up the sweet salad bar right near my building. FTW (for the win).  A giant salad + hummus + pretzels = no need for an afternoon snack.

In other news…

Has anyone joined Google + ? I have an account but have no desire to use it.  I feel like it’s just like a second facebook where I have way less friends. Any thoughts??

Also, how many of you wear a watch?  I do.  All.the.time. I remember when my parents made me go to Camp Widjiwagan summer before 8th grade and the counselors made us turn in our watches for the week.  I just about died.  And I was fourteen.  Nothing has really changed since then.

However, I did have a minor breakthrough this weekend.  On Saturday I switched out my Timex Ironman watch for my 12 miler.  I just threw my Timex in the backseat of my car and did not see where it landed.  I didn’t find it until this evening.  I went a whole THREE days without wearing a watch.  I was pretty proud of myself.  I just put it back on last night after yoga.

Is anyone else exhausted after work on Tuesdays?

I didn’t wake up that early today, but after work I was soooooo tired.  I had plans to go to yoga sculpt but that fell through the cracks when I decided to “rest my eyes” and woke up at 8:30.  Dinner was a repeat from last night and I finally went grocery shopping today.  LOTS of fruit on sale!  I’m making a giant bowl of fruit + greek yogurt for breky tomorrow.

I am meeting Becca, Mary, and Pam for an earrrrlllyyy run tomorrow morning.  Have to leave my place by 5 so I can get to the gym by 5:15.  Then we are hitting up a weights class at 6:00 am.  Which means I gotta hit the sack! Have a great night!

**I just re-read this post and it’s a perfect example of my tendency to ramble and be all over the map. 🙂 **

Great start to the week!

The morning FLEW on this glorious Monday.  I didn’t have time to stop and think till about 11:00.  My delicious (and standard) breakfast powered me through until I had a chance to sit down and realize that I was a bit hungry.  Luckily I had a delish in a dish nectarine to hold me over until lunch.

We had a speaker over the lunch hour and I grabbed a salad from the AWESOME salad bar in a building near mine.  Greens, chicken, black beans, roasted red peppers, peanuts, mandarin oranges, green onions and honey mustard dressing all made it into my lunch salad.  An apple and Casein  + water powered my through the afternoon and my evening swim/run.

I headed to the gym post work and did 1/2 mile in the pool.  I swam the first quarter pretty slow but then this dude got in the pool and I didn’t want him to lap me so I swam the second quarter mile way faster.  By the end I was totally out of breath and could barely haul myself out of the pool.  However, I am proud to say that he didn’t lap me!

Kerry and I then went on a glorious 4 mile run through downtown Minneapolis.  We ran a new route and fortunately much of it was in the shade.  It was pretty hot running in the sun.  I don’t think I would have lasted had more of our run been out in the sun.  Yes, I tried to rhyme that ish.

Surprisingly, I was not famished when I got home.  I’ve been trying to add more protein into my diet and eat a morning and afternoon snack.  This has really helped me get my hunger under control so I’m not to the point of starving.

I made a Chipolte-esque burrito bowl for dinner.  3/4 cup brown organic rice + peppers and onions + 3 turkey meatballs + black beans + corn

I picked up these guys from Trader Joe’s and highly recommend them!

I didn’t have any chicken so these were substituted for my meat (protein).  They tasted a bit weird with my Mexican-inspired dinner.  But not so weird that I wouldn’t use them again.

Topped it off with some Salsa Lisa chipolte salsa.

My dessert was a protein shake– milk chocolate whey protein + water (I’m out of almond milk!)

Off to get my yoga on…DOWNWARD DOG!

Sun, don’t fail on me now.

When I woke up this morning it was pretty gloomy.

Gloomy doesn’t really fit into my day’s plans of sitting out poolside.

But it’s getting sunny now! Hopefully it will keep getting sunnier this morning.

In other news…

Last night’s BBQ was a success! It was great seeing a ton of my high school friends.  It was like a mini-reunion!  We stayed out pretty late and as a result, I was unable to go to spin class.  I need my sleep! 🙂

So I going to opt for some laps at the pool later this afternoon.

  • 1/2 cup egg beaters + 1 egg white
  • Black beans
  • Spinach
  • Fire roasted peppers and onions
  • Salsa

Still steamin’ and oh so good.

As I was prepping this beauty I drank chocolate milk chocolate whey + almond milk. But it tastes like chocolate milk!!

I’m outtie 5000. Off to get a pedi with Molly.  Have a great Sunday!

I got this

12 miles was AWESOMEFEST! Beth, Josh and I rocked the lakes.  It was a little rainy and a lot humid.  I powered up before my run with some oatmeal + sunflower butter.  I had about 6 jelly belly sport beans during the run.

Oh, and the Camelbak?

IT. WAS. AWESOME.

How did I run without this thing?  I felt fully hydrated throughout my whole run and I finished the 70 oz just as we were finishing our run.

Post run I met Molly and baby Vivi.  I chowed on some wasabi flavored almonds and some peanuts on my way out to meet them.

We hit up Bruegger’s for breakfast/early lunch. I ordered the Skinny Zesty Egg White Sandwich.  DELICIOUS! Bruegger’s now does the “skinny bagel.”  LOVE it.

Dinner consisted of Chinese Chicken Salad (Lettuce, chicken, peanuts, green onions, and Light Asian Sesame dressing) + protein smoothie

In the mix

  • Ice
  • 1 scoop Casein powder
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup raspberries

Delicious. Seriously.

Also, anyone seen the most recent Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine???

Ummmmm gross.  These women are pathetic.  And for the record, they are ALL from Minneapolis/Edina/Eden Prairie.  NO ONE from St. Paul.

St. Paul is where it’s at. 🙂

I am off to a BBQ with friends.  And I am excited to enjoy a few of these…
